Something is shaking up the fitness scene in the City of Angels—and trust us, it’s not your average sweat session. It’s a studio called PLATEFIT, and it’s our favorite futuristic fitness phenomenon.  

Backed by science (and loved by celebrities), PLATEFIT’s high intensity, vibrating boutique workout classes are the brainchild of founder and trainer to the stars, Rachael Blumberg. With her love for health, wellness, and sports, Rachael has made "vibration fitness” mainstream, thanks to the Power Plate—a medical-grade device that utilizes harmonic vibrations. Her strengthening, toning, and detoxifying 27-minute classes are not only making waves in the wellness industry but have enabled her to open five studios in the cutthroat LA fitness scene.  

So how did Rachael make science trendy and super sweat-worthy? We sat down with her to find out what powers her “vibe vision” on (and off) the Power Plate.  
 


What inspired you to blend science with whole-body wellness when starting PLATEFIT? 


What inspired me to blend science with fitness was this incredible medical device, the Power Plate that changed my body and health. I was personally seeing results in as little as six sessions. By using the Power Plate, I was sleeping better and felt healthier. I knew this was something very special, and I wanted to bring it to everyone.

The Power Plate looks like a futuristic fitness device. What exactly is vibrating plate fitness – and can it really make a difference?  


The Power Plate can totally make a difference on your body... and mind. You’ll be stronger in every element of your being. Our Signature 27-minute PLATEFIT classes heal and elongate the body, detoxify the system, and help you vibrate higher (aka good vibes). Vibration training is more than physical fitness, it’s a way to better health. We utilize the science of vibration to wake up your cells, increase circulation, drain and detoxify the lymphatic system, reduce inflammation, and accelerate recovery time. The body’s response to vibration increases serotonin and HGH and reduces cortisol—leaving you feeling high and living more vibrantly. The science behind the machine is incredible. It forces muscle contractions 30-50 times a second. That’s over 900 contractions in 30 seconds! Not only are the classes taking place in a fun and encouraging environment, but the results are real.  
 


Currently, your studios are located in the greater-Los Angeles area – and we’ve read about a few famous people who swear by your workout. Can we expect any celebrity sightings at a PLATEFIT class?  


Yes, that is a possibility. You never know who you might see sweating it out on a Power Plate next to you! Right now, we have clients like Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, who attends PLATEFIT classes frequently.

Tell us more about PLATEFIT’s under-30-minute class model. 


It’s one word: effective. The classes are 27 minutes because the vibration accelerates muscle contractions—meaning you do more (and get more results) in a shorter period of time. Just think of it this way: a 30 second Power Plate plank is equal to a 2-minute plank on the ground. Phew!  

 

Do you have advice for a first-timer at PLATEFIT? And what’s the best class to begin with?  


Be ready for something totally different, but totally fun! A workout on a Power Plate will change the way you look (and feel) about fitness. If it’s your first time at PLATEFIT, our signature PLATEFIT – Vibration Training class is the way to start. Don’t forget your grip socks! The best advice that I can give is to expect a “weird/different” experience. Remember, you are working out on a vibrating platform. At PLATEFIT, we suggest three sessions to feel comfortable and really acclimate your body. After three sessions, people get hooked. The body’s response to vibration is addictive.   

 

How are we going to feel after class? We’re thinking sweaty and sore. Do you have any post-Power Plate recovery tips?  


You’re going to feel accomplished after class, and your muscles will be tired—but in the best way possible. Like any post-workout routine, hydration and recovery are key. Try taking a RecoveryFIT/Detox - Vibration Therapy recovery class. The therapeutic vibrations help to open your body and get you that deep stretch that you crave. You are going to feel incredible after and expect to sleep really well!

What other types of exercises compliment a PLATEFTIT workout routine?  


All types! However, we recommend yoga for our clients to help with muscle recovery.

Now that we’ve officially kicked off a new year – and a new decade – do you have any words of wellness wisdom for those of us looking to begin (or stay inspired) on our wellness journey?  


My philosophy is straightforward and simple: stay consistent, be kind to yourself, and sweat! It does the body good! Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help.  

Finally, what’s your secret to success, finding balance – and keeping your well-being in check? 


My well-being stays in check through healthy eating, working out, meditation, and journaling. My mental focus is in gratitude as I believe it beats being negative, no matter where you are in your life and on your wellness journey.

Foundational Steps to Cultivating a Daily Self-love Practice

When you think of self-love what do you think of? Bubble baths, walks on the beach, facemasks, or what? Self-love can mean so many different things but when we think about self-love, we have to acknowledge loving ourselves both on the outside and on the inside. The way that we show ourselves love is one of the most important things we will ever do. 

How do we treat ourselves? How do we talk to ourselves? What foods are we putting into our bodies? How are we thinking about our overall well-being when practicing self-love?

As self-love defines and redefined itself for you over the years, here are a few foundational tips to think about when easing into your self-love journey.

 

Step 1: Learn to set boundaries

Don’t we love this one? Loving ourselves has a lot to do with the boundaries that we have for ourselves, with others, and for others. Take time to think about your own emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs when setting boundaries that reflect your personal needs. Boundaries don’t have to be big and scary; they are here to remind us that you get to have your lived experience and still have expectations about how you’d like to be treated and what you’d like to feel.

When thinking about your boundaries, ask yourself:

  • How do I feel without having boundaries?
  • What would I like to have boundaries around?
  • Are my boundaries actual boundaries or am I creating walls in my life?
  • How do I plan to uphold my boundaries?
Step 2: Cultivate self-compassion

In a world where perfectionism and curated existences have been rewarded, begin to cultivate compassion for yourself. You are a soul having a human experience and it’s totally okay if things are not perfect. 

Mindfulness exercises such as Breathwork, self-care activities, and self-compassion, all help train the mind, emotions, and even the body’s stress chemicals to be able to deal with undesired situations. Self-compassion means, can you be nice to yourself? Can you find empathy and kindness for yourself in the middle of what feels chaotic, stressful, or unwanted? Self-compassion means that we get to make mistakes, have our plans not work out the way that we wanted, and we still get to celebrate that we are doing the best that we can and it is enough.

When thinking about self-compassion, ask yourself:

  • How do I respond to stressful situations?
  • How hard am I on myself?
  • How do I celebrate myself?
  • How do I show myself kindness?
Step 3: Nourish yourself

In every sense of the word “nourishment”, begin to learn what nourishes you and what depletes you. Nourishment doesn’t just mean food for yourself; it means that whatever you are consuming whether it be media, podcasts, people, energy, information, etc. all impact the way that we think, feel, and experience life.

Nourishing yourself definitely goes right along the lines of having your boundaries intact and practicing self-compassion. 

When thinking about nourishment, ask yourself:

  • How do I nourish my emotional well-being?
  • How do I nourish my mental well-being?
  • How do I nourish my physical well-being?
  • How do I nourish my spiritual well-being?
  • How do I nourish my social well-being?
  • How do I nourish my financial well-being?

That’s it. Those are the foundational steps to cultivating a self-love practice that you can ease into your daily routine. Come back to these questions often, because like anything else, self-love is a practice and it takes effort, time, and intention to maintain.
